The Skipper, John Roper, is a retired professional engineer who certified as a Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Instructor in 1985 at the Jibset Sailing School in Vancouver. He is now in his 29th year of teaching safe sailing and cruising the B.C. south coast. John's professional training and experience has enhanced his natural sailing and communicating skills. In his home community he has founded Gibsons Sailing School, hosted television shows about boating, and served as a director of Gibsons Yacht Club.
